Weeknotes 40 - Error 6
- Last night at a birthday dinner I spoke to a friend I know from back in Poland, and whom I haven’t seen for what, fifteen years? I struggled to have even a brief conversation in Polish. I could barely say anything! It was embarrassing.
- One of my colleagues did a short presentation to share interesting stuff from a conference she went to. She summarised a talk about how people make choices about what they want to know and what they don’t. You’re more likely to want to know something if you can use the knowledge to take action, or if it poses no threat to your feelings. For example, would you want to know if your colleagues think you’re incompetent? I would, but I wouldn’t want to know if I am genetically more at risk of certain types of cancer.
- Very much related: I am still avoiding Brexit news.
- A couple of nights ago I forgot to move a stuck Roomba out of my bedroom, and it woke me up at 3am shouting “Error 6: Move Roomba to a new location, then press CLEAN to restart”.
