Weeknotes 63 - This is the way!
- What I want to know is how the minimalists are doing during this time. Because I’m sure glad that my home has everything I need! This is the way!
- The Mandalorian is hands down the best show ever made, and this is coming from me, a very much not a Star Wars fan. Every episode is so well written, so pacy, so tight. The 30 minute stories are very simple but perfectly executed. It’s clear that the people who made it are really good and really confident, because they’re able to exercise so much creative restraint. Nothing about the story is complicated. It’s like making a Michelin star level dish, but with only three ingredients that you eat every day. When you hear it described you think it’s cocky and wonder how they can get away with it especially at this price, but then you eat it and experience so much pleasure a single tear of delight rolls down your cheek.
- Also, two words: baby fucking Yoda.
- Okay, that was three. But get this. Almost the whole thing was filmed inside a technical marvel: a camera-responsive cube of LEDs projecting a computer-generated landscape. Mind-blowing.
- Oh, and because baby Yoda is parented by Mando, who says words in the correct order, baby Yoda will say words in the correct order too. Do not argue with me on this.
- Disney is really doing you a favour by charging you only £5.99 a month to let you stream The Mandalorian IMHO.
- A bulb of garlic I bought had a label that said: “Radical seasonality, revolutionary flavour”. So that’s that.
- In Animal Crossing my partner has paid off his mortgage and got a bigger place which he also paid off, while I spent all my bells on clothes and wallpaper. Too goddamn real.
- It was a stroke of genius to release a game at the beginning of a pandemic. Other game studios must be livid, and possibly working on updating their PR playbooks.
- And more seriously, one of my Instagram friends coyly asked if they were allowed to enjoy being home. You’re not only allowed to enjoy yourself, but you’re allowed to thrive even under the current circumstances. It’s ok to find joy and happiness in whatever curveballs life throws at you. Fun is all there is. This is the way!
